Kitty’s Something New

You know that feeling when you just REALLY want a super soft, squishy, texturized shawl to wrap up in? I had that feeling… so I made one! I’ve had a vision bouncing around in my head for a while now of ALL the texture I could possibly get into a triangle shawl so I started playing around with that idea… and about a billion stop/starts later Kitty’s Something New was born!

I had a very hard time naming my new pattern. I swear, picking a name was harder than actually working through the math and mechanics of actually making it! My inspiration for the name finally came from the book I was reading at the time: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. Both times I’ve red this book the story of Levin and Kitty has been my favorite and their wedding day is one of my favorite scenes. They’re just so adorably in love with each other!  I named my pattern Kitty’s Something New in honor of Kitty’s wedding day – a nod to the bridal rhyme “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

Once I had my pattern typed up and testers lined up, it was incredibly intimidating to send my baby out into the world but once I worked up the courage to hit send, it was pure bliss! I got some constructive suggestions, tons of encouragement, and some amazing photos showcasing how beautifully this shawl works up in every color imaginable! Check out some of the tester photos below! They blew me away… I’m so grateful for these lovely ladies! I absolutely LOVE this shawl (and not just because I designed it 😉 ). Texture is one of my favorite elements in crochet and this shawl has it in spades! It uses medium/worsted weight yarn and is so much fun to make. It has an easy to memorize repeat for maximum Netflix and Chill-ability and the size can be customized to make a scarf or large shawl. Dying to get your hands on the pattern? You can find it on Ravelry here for $5.00! Go grab a copy for yourself, you’ll want one of these to snuggle up in soon!

**This pattern has been updated to include a child size shawl, the Kitty Mini! The smaller repeat section is perfect for a smaller frame and this would make an absolutely adorable Mommy + Me set (even if I do say so myself… which I do!).

Happy crocheting!
